Prices for Basic Food in Germany

Please note: Of course, even in Germany the same product is in most cases produced and offered by several manufacturers. You will always find branded products and so-called "noname products", which do not have to be worse than the product of a well-known brand or a renowned manufacturer. In fact, independent studies often come to the conclusion that low-priced noname products are of better quality. Another advantage of noname products: In Germany, the price is usually the same in all supermarkets. So it doesn't matter if you buy e.g. a liter of milk at "Aldi", "Lidl" or "Edeka" - the price of the noname variant is (almost always) identical. This portal therefore focuses primarily on noname products, as price trends can best be mapped here.

Although there are several "discounter chains" in Germany, for classic staple foods they usually all offer the exact same price. Therefore it is possible for us, at least for basic foodstuffs, to name the current prices very exactly. Therefore, the food prices communicated on our website are "discount prices", branded products are usually more expensive. Please also note that food prices in Germany, due to inflation, are currently rising very sharply.
